Floating Island served as my personal start to large format paintings. The levitating island contorts into a dodecahedron featuring hanging moss and cascading waterfalls.

The original isolated composition was derived from Magritte’s famous The Castle of the Pyrenees, 1959. Other imagery that influenced the painting included the Hallelujah mountains from the movie avatar and general urban decay.

The goal of the painting was to create a sense of weightlessness and boundless perspective.
